Tutorial: Adding Video to Text in Canva

Tutorial: Adding Video to Text in Canva

Welcome to this step-by-step tutorial on how to add video to text in Canva. In this tutorial, we will explore two methods to achieve this creative effect: one that requires a Canva Pro account or a video with a translucent background, and another that doesn't require a Pro account. Let's dive in!

Method 1: Using Canva's Text and Effects (Pro Account or Translucent Video Required)

Step 1: Create Your Text Layers

  1. Open Canva and create a new project.

  2. Add your text to the screen using the Text tool. Customize the font, size, and color to your liking.

Step 2: Duplicate and Position Text Layers 3. Duplicate the text layer by right-clicking on it and selecting "Duplicate." Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D (Cmd + D on Mac).

  1. Position the duplicated text layer directly on top of the original text layer.

Step 3: Apply Effects to Create an Outline 5. Select the duplicated text layer.

  1. Go to the "Effects" tab on the left sidebar.

  2. Choose the "Hollow" effect. Adjust the settings to your preference to create an outline of the text with a hollow inside.

Step 4: Remove Background from Video (Canva Pro Account or Translucent Video Required) 8. If you have a Canva Pro account or a video with a translucent background, you can proceed to this step.

  1. Import your video into Canva.

  2. Use the Background Removal tool to remove the video's background, leaving only the subject.

Step 5: Position the Video Layer 11. Place the video layer between the two text layers.

  1. Adjust the video's position and size to fit within the outlined text.

Step 6: Preview Your Creation 13. Play the video to see the effect of the video playing inside the outlined text.

Method 2: Using Canva's Letter Frames (No Pro Account Required)

Step 1: Choose Letter Frames

  1. Open Canva and create a new project.

  2. In the "Elements" section, go to "Frames" and search for "letters." Choose the letter frames you want to use for your design. Alternatively, you can use other frames, such as shapes.

Step 2: Add and Position Your Video 3. Import your video into Canva.

  1. Position the video within the first letter frame in your design.

Step 3: Expand the Video to Cover All Frames 5. Double-click on the video to edit its size.

  1. Expand the video within the first frame to cover all the frames in your design.

Step 4: Repeat for All Frames 7. Select the same video and position it inside the next frame in your design.

  1. Double-click to edit the video and expand it to match the size of the first video.

  2. Repeat this process for all the frame elements in your design.

Step 5: Preview Your Seamless Video 10. Play the video to see the effect of it playing through all the letter frames seamlessly.

And there you have it! Two methods to add video to text in Canva. The choice of method depends on your access to a Canva Pro account or a video with a translucent background.
